Mumbai, Sep 14 (PTI) Doctors at the civic run Lokmanya Tilak hospital at Sion removed a rare case of large ovarian tumor in a four-month pregnant woman using open laproscpic cystectomy. Akthari Ansari (24), came to Sion hospital last month as a case of pregnancy with large left ovarian tumour. Dr Niranjan Chavan, Unit Head, Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, counselled the patient and her relatives for removal of the tumour as it’s presence would have hampered the continuation of pregnancy Since the benign tumour was extending four fingers above the umbilicus along with approximately 16 weeks size pregnancy, Laparoscopic ovarian cystectomy with ovarian cyst aspiration was suggested to the patient, Chavan told mediapersons today. “She underwent a successful operation on August 31 by Open Laproscopic Hassen’s technique with two ‘ipsilateral’ and one ‘contralateral ports’ (Chavan’s Method) under general anaesthesia,” he said. “This was a rare case of mucinous cyst which if not removed could have ruptured or underwent torsion. Immediately after the procedure, heart sounds of the foetus were confirmed and checked on ultra sonography machine,” the doctor said. PTI
